Privacy Policy
CartMate is a shared grocery-list app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep it short and specific — we only collect what the app needs to work.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details — your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the display name and profile photo associated with your Google account.
- Grocery lists — list names, items, quantities, units, notes, prices and item photos you add, together with who added or checked off each item so shared lists work.
- Purchase history — the names of items you add or buy, used to power "Buy again" and smart suggestions.
Information collected automatically
- Advertising data — the app shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address, and coarse device information to serve and measure ads. Where required (for example the EEA and UK), you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.
- Basic diagnostics — standard technical information (such as device model and OS version) used to keep the app working correctly.
How we use your information
- To sync your grocery lists in real time across your devices and with people you share a list with.
- To show who added, is shopping for, or checked off each item on a shared list.
- To suggest items you buy often ("Buy again" and smart suggestions).
- To send optional notifications about updates on your shared lists.
- To show ads.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) under your account, and is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
Sharing
A list is visible only to you and the people you invite with its share code or QR code. Members of a shared list can see each other's display names, profile photos and activity on that list. We do not sell your data and do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, and push notifications.
- Google AdMob — banner advertising (how Google uses ad data).
Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account inside the app. This permanently removes your account details, the lists you own (for all their members), your membership in shared lists, and your purchase history. See detailed deletion instructions.
Children
CartMate is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update this page and the effective date above.
